Our January classes included lessons on Mozart, on analysis and how to

memorize, and a video on how a piano is built.  We also wrapped up

our scales project and started our next study of chords and arpeggios.

An understanding and mastery of scales, arpeggios, chords gives

students a broad foundation on which to build a solid technique.

And they're tools which we never outgrow. I always have fun with

classes -- I hope your kids do, too!

Winter Break - Feb 20 - 24

The week of February 20-24 is our winter break.....unless we get some significant

snow in the next few weeks. Monday/20th is a rescheduling date. But remember,

EVERYONE is already scheduled for one extra lesson at the end of the term.

Hopefully this puts us ahead of any weather issues!

RMF Scholarship Auditions - March 4th - Albright College

If your child is participating in the RMF Scholarship Auditions, remember the application deadline is January 27th.

RMTA Spring Adjudication Festival  - March  17th -  Albright College

As noted in a previous newsletter, this event is for EVERYONE!  No theory testing is involved with this one -- just a private performance adjudication. During the next month, we'll focus in on the two selections to be performed along with the scale and cadence for the key of each piece. I will need your registration fee of $15 by March 1st. Or just include in the next tuition invoice which comes out this month.

Tuition Installment #3

The third installment will come due March 5-9.  Invoices will be emailed shortly.

Here comes summer!

Hard to believe we're coming to the end of another year.  And it will soon be time to think about summer lessons!   (Yes, maybe I'm pushing it a bit!) I'm already thinking about some different activities for the summer -- like a composing class, duet teams, perhaps a one week camp (meeting an hour each day).  If you think your child might interested, let me know.

Music Apps

Seems more and more apps are becoming available....some more worthwhile than others.  Here are a few I like:

For note reading -- "PianoFlash!" or "WhatNoteIsThis"

For key signatures, intervals, basic ear training - "Music Theory Pro"

    Piano scales reference - "PianoScales"

    For jazz improv - "iRealbook"

For piano music - "Etude" or "Tonara"

    For fun - "Soundprism"

As always, parents are welcome at any time to observe lessons.  Or if you have any questions about what we're doing, please call or email.
